Oncology & Haematology Pharmacist

• Participate in the provision of a safe, efficient and accurate dispensing service including oral chemotherapy.
• Provide simple drug information to customers and refer enquiries appropriately
• Issue dispensed items to patients and provide appropriate and relevant advice to patients or carers to facilitate safe and effective medicines use by patients
• Provide an efficient medicines top-up service to allocated departments and chemo suite
• Contribute actively to stock reviews to enable cost effective stock holding
• Facilitate good medicines management including stock rotation, removal of excess and expired stock including emergency drugs and reviews of medicine usage with lead pharmacist
• Contribute to procurement activities to ensure adequate and responsive stock holding
• Assist with receiving, unpacking and putting away of medicines in line with good practice and procedures
• Maintain good stock including stock checks, expiry date checks, stock rotation, stock take and appropriate storage of materials and products
• Contribute to revenue capture including drug charging
• Contribute to clinical governance initiatives in pharmacy including but not limited to review and updating policies and procedures, clinical audit
• Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with health and safety at work act and the control of substances hazardous to health regulations
• Undertake any other tasks appropriate to capabilities of the role

• Experience in oncology pharmacy
• Hospital experience
• Dispensing medicines and experience of medicine management in a hospital setting
• Dispensing and checking systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) prescriptions
• Electronic prescribing
• Experience of clinical audit and/or practice research
• Patient management
• Counselling
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail – ensure accurate recording of data, including patient drug history
• Good organisational and planning skills
• Able to plan and organise straight forward tasks and programmes, and ensure effective control of pharmaceutical stock
• Flexibility to assist at other centres from time to time.
• Able to communicate clearly with a range of people at differing levels across the hospital, deploying a range of techniques to do this effectively
